Our Investment Philosophy
Fortress believes that all investment portfolios should be goal oriented and must be established within the context of specifically defined financial planning goals – and then managed in a way to help reach those goals with the least amount of risk.
The core components of our investment philosophy are as follows:
Over time, investors benefit from investing in the equity markets. Most of that benefit does not come from stock-picking skills, or being able to predict the equity cycles, but rather from long term exposure to the markets themselves, an appropriate investment time frame, and proper diversification
One of the easiest ways to increase investor returns is to reduce taxes. We manage our portfolios with an understanding and eye for minimizing the tax impact.
We utilize global portfolio strategies. This level of diversification ensures lower levels of volatility and country-specific risk exposure while capturing global capital market returns.
We overweight value strategies within the equity portfolio segments. Stocks that have lower relative valuations have historically provided higher returns than the stock market as a whole.
As a way to reduce portfolio risk and increase diversification, we use limited allocations to alternative strategies. These may include real estate investment trusts, MLPs, commodities, managed futures, and hedge funds.
Fixed income is an important part of virtually every portfolio. It needs to be managed in a way that balances credit risk, interest rate risk, and yield.
